ESPN have been doing a fantastic job for Euro 2008 (Julie Foudy and Tommy Smyth aside), hiring Andy Gray has been nothing short of inspirational, doubly so when they team him up with Derek Rae. Even the usual on-screen clutter has been to an absolute minimum, and I can only hope this may bring an end to those annoying on-screen perpetual adverts in regular soccer coverage. This has to be the buzzword for the Euro 2008 Quarter Finals, mainly because “conventional wisdom” got done thrown out the window in favour of upset after upset after upset. Firstly Portugal, while the 3-2 scoreline made it look close, were shell shocked by Germany. Now Portugal have been knocked out in a truly pulsating match with Germany, all eyes now turn on what will be known as Ronaldogate. I guess in about 5 days or less he will come out and say he wants to join Real Madrid kicking off what’s surely to be an all out fight between two massive clubs that’s bound to get ugly.
